Teaching

Training teachers to be able to teach history and social studies has been central to the Department of History from its founding.  Hundreds of our former majors have gone to successful teaching careers. Two of them have been named New Jersey Teacher of the Year in the past.  Most have gone on teaching history at the high school level in New Jersey public schools, but many have had rewarding careers teaching in middle school or elementary school.  Others have transitioned to careers in administration.  Some have gone on to teach at the college level, often as adjunct faculty members while holding secondary school teaching positions.  Several have gone on to earn their doctorates and become full-time college professors.
