The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering

The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering was founded in 1995, following the historic $100 million gift made to the then-Glassboro State College by industrialist Henry Rowan and his wife Betty.  With this contribution, the largest philanthropic gift ever made to a public institution at the time, Mr. Rowan sought to transform higher education in New Jersey. Through his efforts, Glassboro State grew from a regionally recognized college into what is now a nationally ranked, comprehensive research university. His only request when making his gift was that the institution develop an engineering program that was unlike the majority of existing engineering education programs.  Mr. Rowan’s generosity and vision were woven into the fabric of the College and the University that now bear his name.

Honoring that vision, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering provides a unique, minds-on, hands-on experience that is distinct, one routinely recognized for its innovation and commitment to excellence.  We pride ourselves on maintaining a state-of-the-art research and academic environment.  We continually seek to improve our programs and to strengthen the opportunities available for our students and faculty.  As Mr. Rowan said, “…satisfaction has always been the enemy of progress.” It is in that spirit that we are never satisfied and always aspire to empower the next generation of great engineers.

We thank you for your interest in our College and invite you to explore all that we have to offer.
