Inaugural Mini-Conference and Grand Opening Event:

The Grand Opening Inaugural Mini-Conference held on Friday, February 24th was a huge success! Thank you to all faculty and resource centers that attended and participated in the conference.  We had approximately 85 attendees including several from area school districts and organizations as well as many Rowan faculty, staff, and students.  Teachers and administrators came from Camden, North Brunswick, Mullica Hill, Salem, Logan, Cherry Hill, Pleasantville, Lakeside, Montclair, Bridgeton, Bridgewater-Raritan, East Windsor, and Waterford Township.

The day consisted of an insightful Brown Bag session, research panel discussions from faculty, and a mix and mingle reception, which culminated with a Keynote from Dr. Lisa Delpit.   Dr. Delpit is a Felton G. Clark Distinguished Professor of Education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a recipient of the MacArthur “genius” award and the Harvard School of Education’s award for an Outstanding Contribution to Education.  She is dedicated to providing excellent education to communities both in the United States and abroad.  Delpit is the author of Other People’s Children: Cultural Conflict in the Classroom and Multiplication is for White People: Raising Expectations for Other People’s Children, and co-editor (with Joanne Kilgour Dowdy) of The Skin That We Speak: Thought on Language and Culture in the Classroom.

There were also several comments on how the panel sessions were very thought-provoking and provided great discussions.

If you did not have the opportunity to complete the hard copy evaluation at the event and would like to provide feedback, please take a moment to complete the electronic survey here:
