Rowan's PhysTec Inducted Into The 5+Club

The Physics Teacher Education Coalition is pleased to announce the newest inductees into The 5+ Club, a group of institutions that has graduated five or more highly qualified physics teachers in the 2015-16 academic year. The great majority of institutions graduate less than two physics teachers a year, and the most common number of graduates is zero. In their 2014 report, the American Association for Employment in Education found that the teacher shortage in physics is number one among 59 education fields. The 5+ Club institutions are national leaders in addressing the severe nationwide shortage of secondary physics teachers.

The institutions recognized include:

Rutgers The State University of New Jersey (10)
The College of New Jersey (9)
Brigham Young University (8)
The University of Texas at Austin (7)
Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo (6)
Stony Brook University (6)
University of Colorado Boulder (6)
Rowan University (5)
Georgia State University (5)

The awards were presented at the 2017 PhysTEC Conference in Atlanta, GA and winners will be recognized with a letter to their university presidents and an ad in The Chronicle of Higher Education. Congratulations to this year’s winners of The 5+ Club!
