MS Data Analytics

Data analytics is the art and science of extracting knowledge from "Big Data". It is used in industry, government, and health to make intelligent business, operations, and scientific decisions. Mining and analyzing "Big Data" in the healthcare sector, like other economic sectors, is becoming increasingly essential. Data analytics is helping healthcare organizations make customer relationship management decisions, physicians identify effective treatments and best practices, patients receive better and more affordable healthcare services, pharmaceutical and biotech companies develop new and more effective treatments, and healthcare insurers detect fraud and abuse.

The M.S. in Data Analytics is designed for the student who already has a background in calculus, linear algebra, probability and random variables, proficiency in programming, data structures, and basic algorithms, but relatively little experience in analyzing large amounts of data. The program will allow students to be able to use data analytics skills in any area of specialization, and it prepares them to work as Big Data analysts or to take advantage of large amounts of data in their own disciplines. In addition, the program will allow students to be able to understand issues related to health data, as well as health privacy and economics.

Graduates of the M.S. in Data Analytics program get a strong foundation with required courses in Data Mining, Visual Analytics, Multivariate Statistics, and Data Warehousing.

Students then have choices of tracks depending on their interests and long term goals.

M.S. in Data Analytics students complete a 30 credit-hour program including the required courses mentioned above as well as a variety of core and elective courses in Data Mining, Machine Learning, and Web and Text Mining. Students can concentrate in a number of fields of interest including Health Data, Business Analytics, Machine Learning, or Statistical Learning.

All students complete a capstone course that incorporates a real-world problem (often provided by one of our industry partners).

Applying for the Graduate Programs

TheM.S. Application Masters of Computer Science and the three Certificates of Graduate Studies are administered by the Global Learning & Partnerships of Rowan University (GLP).

As Data Analytics is a vital area for the College of Science and Mathematics, we anticipate expanding both our graduate and undergraduate offerings in the near future.
