Summer Programming

In addition to private lessons, Rowan Prep offers a few summer exclusives! Rowan University also offers several camps for jazz, band, choir, composition, music industry, and strings. Come make music with us this summer!

  • Discounts are available for the summer ensembles if enrolled in at least five private lessons this summer through Rowan Prep, or if multiple family members are part of a summer ensemble. Contact Rowan Prep for more details.
  • There is no registration fee when enrolling in an ensemble.
  • Rowan Prep reserves the right to cancel any classes and festivals that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements.

Summer Brass Ensemble

    • Performance Thursday, June 28th at 3:00pm in Boyd

  • Open to all ages!

Open to brass players of all ages, Summer Brass Ensemble will explore exciting brass repertoire. Play old classics and new favorites! Rowan University brass faculty member Dr. Amy Bliss will lead the group through five days of rehearsals with a free concert for friends and family on Friday afternoon. Repertoire will be dependent on registrations, so encourage all of your brass-playing friends to join the fun!

Summer Music Theater Festival

  • Cost: $200 (Discounts available)
  • Open to students entering grades 3-8.
  • Online registration deadline is Monday, June 18th.  Registrations after this date will be accepted if space permits. The Summer Music Theater Festival requires at least ten participants. Rowan Prep reserves the right to cancel any courses, festivals, and ensembles that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements.

The Summer Music Theater Festival is for young theater students who wish to sharpen their theatrical singing, dancing, and acting skills in a non-competitive environment. No audition is necessary.  Working with a team of specialist teachers, students discover the distinctive challenges and rewards of music theatre.

Students explore vocal production, acting technique, and stage movement for expression. Using theater games, scenes, and monologues, students will discover how action and behavior can create a stage character, engage in problem-solving improvisations to sharpen sensory abilities, and create a distinct physical and emotional personality for their character, with emphasis vocal and drama techniques. Dancing and singing for American Music theater will be emphasized.

Each student will be assigned a song and a role from American Music theater repertoire. Further topics of study include audition techniques and relaxation exercises, cold readings, building a portfolio of distinctive repertoire. The program will culminate in a revue-style performance.

Rowan Prep's Summer Piano Festival is open to elementary, pre-teen, and high school students from beginners to advanced piano levels. Festival activities include a fun approach music theory & history, small-group lessons, mini-master classes, an introduction to improvisation & composition, and much more.

Guided by Rowan music faculty, Mr. McGarry and Dr. Nielsen, bring your piano skills and knowledge to the next level this summer! Students present an informal performance on the final day at the Summer Piano Festival.

Rowan Jazz Camp

The Rowan Jazz Camp offers students from southern New Jersey and surrounding states a chance to study with some of the region's finest jazz educators and performers. During this dynamic five-day camp, students will learn big band and small jazz combo techniques as well as improvisation and other musicianship skills necessary for today's jazz students and tomorrow's performers.

Rowan Band Camp


The Rowan Summer Music Camp offers students in grades seven through twelve the opportunity to study with some of the region's finest instrumental, choral and orchestral educators and performers. During this dynamic five-day camp, students participate in large and small ensembles, experience challenging quality repertoire, and have lessons with world-class faculty. Participants develop their musicianship and improve their technical abilities as they perform in master classes, attend music theory sessions, and see recitals from guest artists.
 

Rowan Choral Vocal Camp

The Rowan Choral Vocal Camp offers students an opportunity to study with fine choral and vocal technicians and perform quality repertoire in large and small ensembles. Throughout the camp, participants will improve their musicianship skills within a supportive environment. Campers also enjoy performances and masterclasses by camp faculty.

Rowan Music Composition/Theory Camp

The Rowan Summer Music Composition Camp offers students in grades seven through 12 a fun opportunity to learn and experience music composition. The camp is designed to expand the composer's toolbox by introducing compositional techniques, investigating orchestration and learning the skill of analysis. The Composition Camp runs at the same time as The Rowan Summer Band Camp and The Rowan Vocal Camp, allowing the Composition Camp two great resources to observe and learn from. Students will bring their primary instrument and will be composing and performing for each other. The Camp concludes on Thursday with students performing their pieces in a '90 Second Speed Concert' which is always a lot of fun for students, parents and audience!

The Rowan Composition Camp has a capped enrollment of 15 students. We have to honor paid registrations in the order they come in.

Rowan String Camp

The Rowan String Camp offers students the opportunity to be immersed in a world of music making, guided by a distinguished international faculty. During this five day camp students participate in daily orchestra rehearsals, master classes, chamber music, and special topic sessions, capped every evening by a faculty recital.


Rowan Music Industry/Technology Camp


The Rowan Music Industry camp offers students a world-class learning experience on music technology and key aspects of the music business. Topics covered include audio recording, editing, MIDI sequencing, audio mixing, music industry overview, record deals, music publishing and music marketing.

The Rowan Music Industry Camp has a capped enrollment of 48 students. We have to honor paid registrations in the order they come in.
