Ensembles at Rowan Prep

Make music with friends and make friends as you make music! Rowan Prep offers several ensemble options. We even have opportunities to join some Rowan University ensembles by audition.

  • There is no registration fee when enrolling in an ensemble.
  • Rowan Prep reserves the right to cancel any courses, festivals, and ensembles that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements.


Atlantic Youth Brass Band

  • Faculty: Bryan Appleby-Wineberg & The Atlantic Brass Band
  • Sundays, 3:30 - 5:30 PM
  • Spring Semester Only
  • First rehearsal: January 28, 2018
    • A full rehearsal schedule will be available here.
  • Performance: May 17, 2018 at Burlington Township High School
  • Cost: $150

    cornet, flugel horn, tenor horn, baritone, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion.

This dynamic team will push your brass playing to new heights of musical excellence and change the way you play in your school ensembles. Come & learn the amazing art of brass playing in a true Brass Band!  

 

Garden State Girlchoir and New Jersey Boychoir

New to Rowan Prep in Fall 2017!

  • The Garden State Girlchoir (GSG) seeks to nurture extraordinary girls by empowering them through extraordinary music making. Click the link above if you know a girl or young woman between the ages 7 and 17 who loves to sing.
  • The New Jersey Boychoir (NJB) is in its inaugural season, channeling the boundless energy of boys into music making of the highest standards that results in the unforgettable experiences for singers and audiences alike.

Rowan Prep Youth Chorale

No audition is required. This intermediate level ensemble is for pre-teen & teen singers (rising 4th-10th graders).

The Rowan Prep Youth Chorale offers young singers the opportunity to perform music from a wide variety of styles and cultures including A Cappella, Broadway, and traditional choral arrangements.

Emphasis will be placed on singing with a healthy vocal tone, developing sight-singing skills, and enhancing musicianship. 

 

 

Rowan Youth Orchestra

The Rowan Youth Orchestra, now in its 32nd year at Rowan University, is a full orchestra including all the major string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Orchestra members are in grades 7-12 from schools throughout southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The RYO will perform two concerts in Rowan University’s Pfleeger Concert Hall to showcase its musicians’ talents and will have chamber music opportunities.

Audition Required!

2017-2018 Audition Dates: September 10, 17, & 17.  Signups will be posted in August.

Ensembles at Rowan University

The below three ensembles are open to advanced high school students by audition only. For more information about how to audition for these ensembles, please contact Rowan Prep.

Statesmen Men's Choir

  • Director: Art McKenzie
  • Open to advanced high school male singers or members of the community by audition only
  • Cost: $110 per semester

The Rowan University Statesmen Men's Chorus is made up of men from across campus and beyond. The choir consists primarily of Rowan University non-music majors, but also includes RU professors, and outstanding area high school students who have passed a successful audition. The ensemble focuses on music fundamentals, music reading, and techniques to improve the singing voice. There is no requirement to join Statesmen aside from a willingness to learn and be a part of a dynamic ensemble.

Concert Band

  • Director: Joe Higgins
  • Open to high school wind players by audition only
  • Cost: $110 per semester

The Rowan University Concert Band is comprised of music majors as well as talented students from many other disciplines. Exploring a variety works for band, the ensemble prides itself in achieving a consistently high level of performance. Student-musicians share in the excitement of the creative process as they prepare two concerts each semester. All interested students are encouraged to contact the conductor for more information. Rehearsals are now held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:00pm.

University Orchestra

  • Director: Sal Scarpa
  • Open to high school strings, winds, and percussion by audition only
  • Cost: $110 per semester

This full-sized orchestra performs concerts of the standard repertoire, Young Peoples Concerts, and a Pops concert. The group also sponsors an annual soloist competition. Membership is open to University students and members of the community by audition.
