Fall 2018 Woodwind/Brass Ensemble Auditions

All woodwind & brass students interested in performing with the Wind Ensemble and University Orchestra are required to audition. This same audition is also encouraged for those interested in performing with the Concert Band (though non-music majors may also participate in Concert Band without an audition). Those interested in Jazz Band will perform a separate audition (see bottom of page!). Fall 2018 Auditions dates/times:

WOODWINDS: Sunday, Sept 2, 11AM-5:30PM

BRASS: Monday, Sept 3, 10AM-4:30PM

Please return to this site on/after AUGUST 1st. Here you will find details for instrument-specific audition times on the appropriate days.

Flute: EXCERPTS

Oboe: EXCERPTS

Bassoon: EXCERPTS

Clarinet: Clarinets have two sets of excerpts. The first is here (EXCERPTS), and you should prepare all of them. The second packet is one of these (Level One, Level Three, Level Five, Level Seven); Level One students should prepare them according to these instructions: "Beethoven, Symphony No. 4, (3) and (4); Berlioz, Symphony Fantastique, (2); Borodin, Polovestian Dances, (1), (2), and (3); Mendelssohn, Scherzo from 'Midsummer Night’s Dream', (1)." Saxophone: EXCERPTS (Alto) EXCERPTS (Tenor) EXCERPTS (Bari)

Trumpet: Trumpets should download and prepare two documents: this set of ensemble excerpts (EXCERPTS) and this etude/exercise (ETUDE).

Horn: EXCERPTS

Trombone: EXCERPTS

Euphonium: EXCERPTS

Tuba: EXCERPTS

Percussion: Ensemble placements for percussionists are not a part of this audition process. You should contact director of percussion Dr. Matthew Witten for more information.

 

Jazz Band auditions will take place during the same time frame as other ensemble auditions (see above). Contact Denis DiBlasio with any questions (diblasio@rowan.edu). Audition requirements:

1 - Play an etude of your choice.

2 - Will be asked to sight read.

3 - Improvisation optional but encouraged.
