About

The Predynastic Collection at the Penn Museum is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the United States. Artifacts of all types, ranging from domestic, mortuary and ritual contexts, are represented. As an early subscriber to the Egypt Exploration Society'Äôs expeditions to Egypt beginning in the late nineteenth century, the University Museum received hundreds of artifacts from the key archaeological sites that inform our modern understanding of the Upper Egyptian Predynastic, the cradle of the Egyptian pharaonic state.

Goals

The goals of the project include the detailed documentation of the collection with the goals of developing new avenues of scientific and cultural research and publication. The project can afford Rowan students the opportunity to learn archaeological research techniques utilizing a variety of artifact types in a professional museum setting.
