An Evening with George Raveling

Join us Tuesday, October 30 for an evening with George Raveling. Rowan University’s College of Communication & Creative Arts presents the inaugural Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact Speaker Series featuring George Raveling at 7:30 pm on October 30 in Tohill Theater.

George Raveling provided security for Dr. Martin Luther King’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech, standing shoulder to shoulder with Dr. King during this monumental moment in our nation’s civil rights movement. Dr. King gave Mr. Raveling the copy of this historic speech which he still has in his possession today. Mr. Raveling held positions as the first  African American coach at Washington State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Southern California. He was also on the coaching staff of the 1984 Olympic team led by Michael Jordan. After coaching, he became the Director of International Basketball for Nike and was inducted to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Join us as Dr. John Giannini, founding director of the Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact, talks with Raveling about his life-long efforts to learn, impact others, understand and appreciate the past and prepare for the future.
